Accessibility statement
Last updated 8 October 2026
Tool Shed wants everyone to be able to use this website, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard, magnification or other assistive technology. The website aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
About this website
toolshed.be is the website of Tool Shed BV. It describes the software development and technical leadership services of Tom Schuermans, shows selected work, and introduces his photography under the name The Lens of Tom. You can get in touch by email. The website does not sell anything and has no forms, accounts or payments.
This statement covers toolshed.be: the home page, the privacy notice, this page, their Dutch versions, and the resume available for download.
How the website meets accessibility requirements
- Keyboard: everything works with a keyboard alone. A “Skip to content” link is the first thing you reach, focus is always clearly visible, and it is never hidden behind the header.
- Screen readers: pages use landmarks and a logical heading structure. Images have text alternatives, links describe where they go, and links that open a new tab say so.
- Seeing the content: text and controls meet the WCAG contrast requirements, and links can be recognised without relying on colour.
- Zoom and small screens: the pages adapt to any screen width down to 320 pixels without horizontal scrolling, so you can zoom to 400%. Text stays readable when you increase letter, word and line spacing.
- Touch: buttons and links are at least 24 by 24 pixels.
- Motion: if your device is set to reduce motion, the page shows no animations.
- Language: every page declares its language, and words in another language are marked as such, so screen readers pronounce them correctly. The site is available in English and Dutch.
- Resume: the downloadable PDF is tagged, with a heading structure, a language setting and a text alternative for the photo.
- No time limits, no pop-ups: nothing on the website moves on its own, expires or interrupts you.
Known limitations
- Photography galleries: the photos link to galleries on photos.the-lens-of-tom.be, which runs on the Pic-Time platform. Tool Shed does not control how those pages are built and has not assessed their accessibility. If they cause you problems, email us and we will send the photos or information in another way.
- Resume PDF: the PDF is tagged but has not been formally validated against the PDF/UA standard. A plain HTML version is available on request.
How this was assessed
This statement is based on a self-assessment carried out on 8 October 2026. The pages were checked with the axe-core 4.10 automated tester against WCAG 2.2 level A and AA, followed by manual checks of keyboard navigation, focus visibility, contrast (including text on gradients), reflow at 320 pixels, text spacing, target sizes and the accessibility tree as exposed to screen readers.
The website is reviewed again whenever its content or design changes significantly.
